Surface preparation is a key component in realizing a long lasting finish. Painting on dirty surfaces, during cold or humid weather, or just after a rainstorm or a power washing job will produce unsatisfactory results. Paint failures also occur if the interior house humidity is high - latex paint works best here. It is generally best to apply the same type of paint over what exists. Remember, fix the cause of paint failures before applying a new finish and don't always take the low contractor bid - the middle price is usually the best bet.
